As part of event marking NLNG 20/30 anniversary celebration, Nigeria LNG today paid a courtesy call on His Majesty, King Dr. Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, CON. JP. Perekule XI, Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Ancient Grand Bonny Kingdom.
Speaking during the visit, MD/CEO Mr. Tony Attah, On behalf of his management team, passed MDs and CEOs appreciated his Majesty for the roles Bonny Kingdom played during Train 1 to 6 and appealed for more support as she prepares for Train7
Thereafter, His Majesty the King led his Council of Chiefs’, Tittle Citizens, NLNG management team, and a host of others to Asimini bypass road, where he performed the ground breaking ceremony for Bonny Consulate building.
Speaking at Ceremony, His Majesty the King lauded Nigeria LNG for the immeasurable support to Bonny Kingdom.
His Majesty also added “Bonny Kingdom is exceptionally blest with natural endowments pulled varied economic interests to the Kingdom since he 15th century when she became a major trading port in the Easter Delta and gate way to international trade with the arrival of the Portuguese tonour shores.
Our natural deep-water seaport situated this Kingdom for trans-Atlantic trade from the era of slave trade to palm export, ivory and timber exports, up to this dispensation of oil and gas exports.
While we cherish the vintage position of playing host to heterogeneous inventors who explore our land, we also realise the need to maintain our unique cultural heritage a tint of symbolic antiquities that we acquired from our long history of vast business interactions.
We have no doubt in our minds that in today’s world, if all those antiquities are rightly preserved, Bonny would indeed be a tourist haven. So, we are really happy with what is happening here today, as we witness the benevolent gesture by this outstanding cooperate citizen of Bonny community, Nigeria LNG kick-starting the actualisation of what I will call our mutual aspiration by re-enacting the Bonny Consulate building.
This building as the name suggest, is quite significant in the development trait of Bonny Kingdom. The consulate building is reminiscent of active involvement of the British in the internal affairs of the Kingdom in the 19th century. This was largely occasioned by their intense interest in the favourable business clime they found with us here. The story has been the same ever since and Bonny continues to provide that ambience that every business concern, especially of export nature requires.
The story about Bonny Consulate building was a fading reality that people can only read distorted recounts in different publications. As Nigeria LNG bequeaths the Kingdom this building in replication of that vestige Consulate building, Bonny Kingdom will again be able to proudly keep the memoirs of it ancient business history.
This is a huge gift from Nigeria LNG to Bonny Kingdom. We thank the Board, shareholders and management of this outstanding company for respecting the soul this Kingdom by positively touching on every aspect of our existence as a home of the harbour of great value.
The company has performed well through it’s sterling CSR initiative and unrelenting commitment to the advancement of the Kingdom, especially towards the socio-economic good of our people. I acknowledge with great joy, the most recent and significant gesture by Nigeria LNG, which is the Bonny Community Health Insurance program. That is one among many genuine provisions by the company to foster Bonny people’s wellbeing. I urge every indigene to embrace the programme to ensure that we secure a healthy society for ourselves.
We are also well aware that Nigeria LNG is making significant financial contributions to the value of N60 billion towards the actualisation of Bonny-Bodo road, which will definitely relieve us the burden and dangers of sea travels. The company’s management continues to assure us of their resolve to ensure that Bonny Community becomes an example of a thriving modern society.
They go beyond their distinctive initiatives to organisations in the Kingdom to pull resources together towards mega infrastructure development in Bonny. Today’s event is one such incident as Nigeria LNG and Julius Berger Nigeria synergize to accomplish this project.
Today, I stand before my people and our guests here to endorse Nigeria LNG as a company deserving of our respect and support. From what we can see, Nigeria LNG’s success now and in the future will ultimately benefit us in immeasurable ways and my charge is that every true son and daughter of this Kingdom, as well as residents in this Kingdom should eschew any act that will impede the company’s progress.
We assure you that when this building is completed and furnished to be fit for purpose, the Kingdom will take on the responsibility of utilizing it such that Nigeria LNG Limited will proud you committed to this project and prosperity will remember you.Thank you for the honour to our Kingdom”.
