A member House of representatives, representing Katagum Federal Constituency in Bauchi State Honorable Umar Abdulkadir Sarki has empowered six (600) hundred women with five thousand naira (N5000) each to start a petty trade.
Disbursing the funds to the beneficiaries yesterday, Honorable Abdulkadir said the trade money was meant to assist the rural women in their daily petty business and boost economic activities at community level.
He said, the program is part of his empowerment plans and measures designed to increase income per households in his constituency and to enable the women become self employed with less dependants on husbands.
The lawmaker who is from the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) from Bauchi State will also launch a charitable organization “Farar Tafiya Foundation” with the objective of rapid response to the problems bedevilling Katagum constituency.
Earlier in his remarks, Secretary Farar Tafiya Foundation comrade Salahuddeen Yakubu Gwani said the Foundation will serve as a communication channel between the member and his constituents.
He added that that the foundation will also help the member in recording the activities he executed to enable him tactically carry future plans.
He said “Honorable Umar Sarki has done so many commendable works in his two months in office which his predecessors had failed to do in the past. Which include, payments of Medical Bills, Tuition fees, Sand fillings and lot more which is worth a huge amount of Money”.
“Since the inception of Democracy in this country there was no Reps member from Katagum in our record that had empowered women up to 1000 as part of his empowerment program or to help them earn a living like the way Sarki has done, Hon. Umar Sarki has reiterated his commitment to carry women along in all his planned skill acquisition and Empowerment programs to enable them have a source of income”.
He recall that during campaigning Honorable Umar Abdulkadir Sarki promised his supporters that he eill initiate many empowerment programs for his constituents especially women and Youths by organising skill acquisition and empowerment Scheme to support the less privileged and Vulnerable ones in the constituency which he is fulfilling.
