Troops of the Nigerian Army’s Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have neutralised 16 terrorists and recovered a cache of weapons during coordinated operations across Adamawa State, while repelling separate coordinated attacks on two military battalion positions that left three soldiers dead.
The Boima Ambush
Acting Military Information Officer for Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Mohammed Goni, said in a statement issued in Maiduguri that troops conducted a coordinated ambush on a terrorist enclave in the Boima general area of Gombi Local Government Area between September 30 and October 1. The operation resulted in the neutralisation of 16 terrorists, with surviving members of the group fleeing the area in different directions.
From the engagement, troops recovered three AK-47 rifles, two pump-action rifles, one Dane gun, six AK-47 magazines and a belt of pump-action cartridges.
Air Strike in Sector 4
In a related operation, the Air Component of OPHK carried out a precision air strike in the early hours of October 1, after an Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform detected approximately 16 terrorists gathered alongside 15 motorcycles under a tree canopy in Sector 4 at around 4:40 a.m. The strike followed roughly 50 minutes later, at 5:30 a.m., with surviving terrorists reported to have scattered from the area in disarray.
Attacks Repelled at Garkida and Garaha
Separately, insurgents launched coordinated attacks on troop positions at 226 Battalion in Garkida and 232 Battalion in Garaha. Troops responded with what the Army described as superior firepower, forcing the attackers to abandon their assault and withdraw. Three Nigerian soldiers were killed during these engagements, with wounded personnel evacuated for treatment.
Military’s Position
Captain Goni said Operation HADIN KAI would continue leveraging intelligence, technology and joint capabilities across land, air and other supporting components to deny terrorists freedom of action throughout the North East, describing the period’s operations as reinforcing the command’s sustained offensive posture as Nigerians marked the Independence Day anniversary.
