President Buhari proceeds to UK on private visit

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday proceed to the UK on a private visit, Mr Femi Adesina, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity has disclosed.

Adesina, in a statement in Abuja on Thursday, however, said the president would pay official visit to Maiduguri from where he would proceed to the UK.

The presidential aide further revealed that President Buhari would return to Nigeria on May 5.

The statement read in part: ”Further to the official visit by President Muhammadu Buhari to Lagos Wednesday where he commissioned a number of projects executed by the State Government, the President is scheduled to depart for Maiduguri, the Borno State capital for another official visit Thursday.

”He is expected to commission developmental projects especially in the sectors of education, healthcare and roads.

”At the end of the visit, President Buhari will be proceeding to the United Kingdom on a private visit. He is expected to return to Nigeria on May 5, 2019.”

NAN reports that during his last visit to Maiduguri on Nov. 28, 2018, President Buhari while addressing troops at Maimalari Cantonment, reiterated his commitment to improve the welfare of Nigerian Army to enable them discharge their constitutional mandate of protecting the nation’s territorial integrity.

He noted there has been a remarkable improvement in the security situation in the North East since 2015 when he came into power.

”I know that you are doing your best to reverse this trend and I want to assure you that no effort will be spared in providing the necessary support you require to complete the task.

”We remain committed to ending the crisis in the North East and making the entire area safe for all.

”I urge you all to keep up the good work. 13. I am also painfully aware that some gallant officers and soldiers have paid the supreme price in the course of these anti-terrorist operations’, Buhari told troops when he visit.
