Former Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly and the serving member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Chief Anayo Nnebe has dismissed allegations on the social media that he has commenced the dismantling of the twenty-four boreholes he sunk while in the State Assembly.
According to the report, the boreholes where being dismantled by the lawmaker following his failed re-election bid in the state.
Speaking to journalist in Awka, Nnebe contended that “the story is not true and those peddling such fake reports are only being mischievous and should be discountenanced. The boreholes in question are twenty-four in number and they are all over the place in Awka and they were sunk while I was the Speaker of the State Assembly.
“One of the boreholes is located at Amachalla and this is the second time the ‘sumo’ is having problems and I asked the attendant to take the ‘sumo’ to where it would be repaired.
“The technician told us that the ‘sumo’ have been badly damaged so we went and bought a new one and it has been replaced and it is functioning as we talk now.
“When this reporter visited the Amachalla village people were seen fetching water from the boreholes while the attendant supervised activities.”
The attendant, Mr Goodwin Nworji who also spoke with Tribune Online:“Since the borehole was Commissioned I have been in charge here taking care of the project.
“This has been my duty ever since and I know that the borehole has been having problems so I informed him about it and we had bought a new one.”
Scores of villagers called for the arrest of the peddlers of the false information adding that some people are out to bring Anayo Nnebe down.
One of them, Mrs Uchenna Chinwuba told Tribune Online that the story came from Facebook adding that “no journalist can afford to make such publication.”
Speaking on the outcome of the election, Nnebe stated that he will not go to court to challenge the declaration of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that Emeka Onwaso of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the election.
Nnebe won his first term election to the National Assembly and joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) where he contested the last election.
