Teachers and students of Ideke Secondary School Iyiowa Odekpe, Ogbaru council area, Anambrastate have raised alarm over incessant encroachment of herdsmen and their cattle into the school compound.
They called on the state government to wade into the ugly development to forestall any unforeseen crises.
Speaking to newsmen in her office, the Acting Principal of the school, Mrs. Ann Nwosu lamented their ordeals in the hands of the herdsmen. She regretted that both cattle as well as herdsmen were seen in the school compound during the school hours, saying that it has been a regular occurrence.
One of the teachers, Mrs. Nkoli Anikpe, narrated how the children were harassed by the herdsmen and their cattle whenever they were on break. She said the herdsmen have threatened them on several occasions when they tried to stop them from encroaching into their compound. She called on the state government to come to their rescue.
Reacting to the development, the special assistant to the governor on secondary school monitoring, Dame Chinyere Mbakwe expressed shock at the ugly trend, describing it as worrisome. Mbakwe who also was also an eye witness to the incident, promised to channel the matter to the appropriate authority.
