The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has expressed displeasure over what it saw as the linking of the group to the on-going bitter acrimony between Iyom Bianca Ojukwu -wife of its late Supreme leader, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and the national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA), Chief Victor Oye.
The biff, MASSOB noted, stemmed from the recent Anambra South Senatorial district primary election that Iyom Ojukwu lost convincingly to Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.
In a press statement from the office of the group’s leader-Comrade Uchenna Madu which described MASSOB as foremost pro Biafra non-violence and non-political movement, “we are not interested or involved in Nigeria politics or political party affairs, though MASSOB is a huge factor to be reckon with in affairs of the eastern region and wherever Ndigbo resides.
“But we don’t involve ourselves in Nigeria political game unless our stake and aspirations are highly favoured”.
Consequently, it therefore disassociated itself from a certain unfortunate statement credited to MASSOB alleging that they had directed Ndigbo not to vote for APGA candidates in Feb 2019 general elections.
It emphasized that its members do not in any way get involved in Nigeria politics, hence the statement was false and misleading.
The statement warns those trying to use their name to score cheap political scores to desist noting that MASSOB has been reformed under Madu’s leadership, “we shall never allow some shameless persons to drag MASSOB into the dirty mud of Nigeria politics”.
“We understand that some disgruntled and self centered persons who earlier pressurized Iyom Bianca Ojukwu’s political ambition are springing up again to create dissatisfaction again in Igboland using MASSOB name as a cover up.
“They wanted to deceive and use her perceived political position to enrich and draw an unmerited attention to themselves but she does not know that they really want to bury her relevancy in Igbo land.
“MASSOB understand that Iyom Bianca Ojukwu attended a function of Ralph Uwazuruike-led Biafra Independence Movement (BIM) where she attacked APGA and it’s leadership using MASSOB as a back up.
“We wish to clarify that MASSOB celebrated the Ojukwu memorial anniversary in churches across Biafra land on last Sunday, not in Uwazuruike’s house in Owerri. MASSOB are not against APGA or any other political party, we are not partisan or supporter of any Political party in Nigeria. MASSOB advised Iyom Bianca Ojukwu to stop associating MASSOB in her unnecessary quarell with APGA.
“MASSOB warned that the leadership of APGA should not be blamed or castigated because of the failure of Iyom Bianca Ojukwu, she failed because she disobeyed her husband and our ancestors who have seen the mesmerization she will encounter in red chamber of National Assembly. Her failure is a divine act.
“MASSOB under my selfless leadership will never relent or derail in defence of the integrity, honour and respect for Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu (Eze Igbo Gburugburu)”
