Our attention has been drawn to the arrest of a social media influencer, Segun Onibiyo, by the very divisive and tyrannical governor in Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir Elrufai, in a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
We make bold to say that Elrufai is unfit to order the arrest of anyone; he also lacked the moral pedestal to accuse anyone of hate speech, as there is no living Nigerian politician today in any part of the country who has used incendiary remarks to drive hate speech and create tension in the last five years, like Elrufai.
Just recently, Gov. Elrufai in his divisive trademark issued a blatant threat against Peter Obi, warning the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, to await retaliation of a contrived action. This is man who has no respect for the constitution when issuing threats and making corrosive remarks.
Therefore, we wish to alert Nigerians and the international community to the growing tendency of Elrufai to use allegations of hate speech as a cover to undermine opposition, and also use the instrument of government to get back at critics.
Here is a governor who has done more harm deepening the fault lines in his state than healing old wounds. Mallam Elrufai went as far as visiting another country to pay and reward aliens who killed citizens of Nigeria under a contrived conspiracy of stopping further reprisal attacks, and thereby committed treason against the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The arrest and detention of Segun Onibiyo is a step further in an inglorious long list of arranged crack down on critics of the ruling party in Kaduna state, to foist an autocratic rule the Buhari administration is trying to achieve across Nigeria. Kaduna state under Elrufai has become a fascist enclave where no one should dare criticise the emperor himself.
We must never allow this injury against Segun Onibiyo to spread to other compatriots without a legitimate fight – an injury to one is an injury to all and the only way we can secure our freedom is to fight against the oppression of others.
We must also not allow revisionist, irredentists and dark agents masquerading as democrats to undermine human rights and rule of law. We demand the immediate release of Segun Onibiyo without any injury to him.
Signed
