Bill Gates, Dangote Applaud Ganduje On Kano Health Programs

Kano state government has expanded drug revolving funds program across additional 60 primary health facilities in the state to ensure sustainable supply of quality and affordable drugs to our teeming population, the state governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Gnduje, has revealed.
“In the first half of 2019, our goal is to maintain the tempo in improving the quality  and efficiency of the drug revolving fund scheme and expansion of the scheme across additional primary health facilities, sustain the quality integrated supportive supervision, and scale up strengthening of 2-way referral linkages between primary and secondary health care facilities”, he added.
Dr. Ganduje stated this late Tuesday evening during the Health System Strengthening program 2018 end-year review meeting, involving the Co – chair Bill and Melinda Gates, Foundation, Mr. Bill Gates, Alh. Aliko Dangote as well as the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewale.
In addition, he stated that in the first half of 2019 the state government will focus on improving quality of health care services in secondary and primary health facilities in the State.
“We will continue to utilize the available resources to ensure improved delivery of maternal and child health services, recruit and deploy additional skilled health personnel to our health facilities”, Dr Ganduje assured.
He maintained that in a bid to improve access to health care services, his government  has put in place a number of programs such as Free Maternal & Child Health Care Services, Free Accident & Emergency Care, Free eye care program, among others.
“We have equally invested and continued to invest in upgrading over 300 health care facilities (mostly PHCs); providing basic and state-of-the-art equipment to our health facilities; recruited and re-distributed health manpower to areas of need most especially to rural areas; upgraded our health training institutions, introduced the State Contributory Health Care Scheme to mitigate the catastrophic effect of out-of-pocket expenditure and to increase universal access to health”.
“Similarly, we have also established a new scheme, the “Health Trust Fund” to provide additional funding for provision of quality health care services in the state”.
Dr. Ganduje also mentioned that Kano has not relented in its efforts to put very close monitoring mechanism on Routine Immunization and Polio program to ensure that the gains from past years are sustained.
Speaking via Skype, Mr. Bill Gates commended Kano State Ministry of Health for improving efforts in Polio eradication and routine immunization, especially from the resent Lots Quality Assurance Sampling.
He urged the government of Kano state to make its full 2019 financial counterpart contribution to the health basket fund by the end of December this year.
On his part, Alh. Aliko Dangote, who acknowledged that Kano has made progress in data quality improvement for routine immunization was happy that the state Ministry of Health has conducted external audit of the tripartite health program. He challenged the Ministry to complete the audit by March next year.
In their separate remarks, the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewale and the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, stressed the for concerted efforts toward sustaining the gains so far recorded in routine immunization in the state, assuring of their unwavering commitment towards achieving the desired goals.
