By Nedum Noble

A two-bedroom apartment and other house hold items were reportedly gutted by fire in Ire village, Enugwu ukwu, in Njikoka local government area of Anambra State.

The building, belonging to a clergy, Rev. Martin Chukwudebelu was said to have been razed by the fire which started around 12 noon from one of the rooms before extending to the rest of the apartment.

247ureports.com gathered that one of the children of the victim, was fast asleep in the apartment when the incident occurred.

An eye witness who pleaded anonymity, said property and structure worth hundreds of thousands of naira were burnt to ashes in the inferno, which he said was later put out by men of State Fire Service.

Narrating his ordeal, the victim, Rev. Chukwudebelu said he was in church when he received a distress call from his wife to come home immediately.

He said efforts were already on by the villagers to put out the fire by the time he arrived.

The victim, who was visibly devastated, however expressed thanks to God that no life was lost during the incident, despite the fact that one of his children was asleep inside the building when the fire broke out.

Regretting the huge loss he had suffered as a result of the fire, the cleric commended the efforts of the men of the State Fire Service in assisting in putting out the fire, saying the fire would have extended to the next building in the compound if not for their prompt intervention.

When our correspondent visited the residence, sympathisers were still trouping in to commiserate with the family over the loss, while others watched with utter bewilderment.
