Information reaching to 247ureports.com from a source within the National Assembly indicates the Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Nasir Ajanah have succumbed to pressure mounted by the leadership of the National Assembly.

According to the information made available by the source the Chief Judge was cautioned by the leadership of the National Assembly in tandem with top Judges around the country. The National Judiciary Council was reported to have reached out to the Chief Judge.

Our source did not reveal the extent the parties reached to persuade the Chief Judge to revert on the early decision to deny bail to the Senator of the federal republic of Nigeria โ€“ who was brought to the court room on a stretcher.

But the source confirmed that the Chief Judge was โ€œquick and responsiveโ€ to the demands made by the national assembly. โ€œThe Chief Judge has agreed in principle to grant Senator Dino Melaye a soft bail on Thursday.โ€ The source claims.

It is recalled the Chief Judge on Monday adjourned hearing of the bail application of Senator Dino Melaye for Thursday, May 10, 2018 following the inability of parties to submit their counter affidavit and โ€œbetterโ€ affidavit to the written bail application by Melayeโ€™s counsel when Justice Nasir Ajanah, last Friday, ordered that the lawmaker be transferred to the National Hospital Abuja.

The prosecution, led by Dr. Alex Iziyon (SAN), readied a counter affidavit to the written application for bail by Chief Mike Ezekhome (SAN), Melayeโ€™s counsel, to which the latter had sought the courtโ€™s permission to file a โ€œbetterโ€ affidavit to the counter affidavit by the prosecution.

This followed last Thursdayโ€™s refusal to grant bail to the lawmaker when he was arraigned before the Senior Magistrate Court 2 sitting in Lokoja on a seven-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy and illegal possession of fire arms.

Ajanah had said that in view of the critical health conditions as espoused by the counsel to the applicant, he should be moved to the National Hospital, Abuja, for proper medical attention.
