The federal government has been urged to grant operational licenses to indigenous firm consider to be capable of executing good project, especially in the Niger Delta region.

A group under the aegis of Niger Delta Coalition Project made the call in an open letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The letter signed by its coordinator, Ambassador Young Piero, Wednesday in Abuja, said investigations revealed that indigenous firms were more friendly to host communities than foreign firms.

He said the supreme council of traditional rulers of Ogoni and Ogoni youths took a wise decision by endorsing RoboMichael Nigeria Limited, a firm they considered reliable, capable to create jobs, provide employment and execute development projects in Ogoni land.

“We urge the federal government to encourage indigenous firms by issuing them operstorship licences of oilfields as this will build confidence and boost economic activities in the Niger Delta region.

“We have confidence in RoboMicheal Nigeria limited, being an indigenous firm owned by a Niger Deltan will employ Ogonis, awards contracts and developmental projects to indigenes of Ogoni land.

“We appeal to the federal government to respect and implement the collective decision of Ogoni people which is the endorsement of RoboMichael Nigeria Limited as their preferred indigenous firm to operate OML11, in Ogoni land.

“We urge the federal government to give total supports to RoboMichael Nigeria Limited and extensively engage Ogoni leaders to continue to provide the enabling and business friendly environment for investors.”

The group, while commending President Buhari’s administration gor its in developmental efforts, said the region had suffered marginalisation over the years.

“let us use this opportunity to thank you and the APC-led administration for enforcing the Local Content Act which allowed an indigenous firm, RoboMichael Nigeria Limited owned by a Niger Deltan to operate OML11.

“Mr. President, it will interest you to know that there would be lasting peace, massive human and infrastructural development in Niger Delta when indigenous firms takes over or given licences to operate some if not all oilfields in the Niger Delta.

“Finally, we commend the Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers of Ogoni and Ogoni Youths for endorsing RoboMicheal Nigeria limited, however, we appeal to all Ogoni sons and daughters to remain peaceful, provide the enabling environment for investors and embrace this opportunity to fast tract development in Ogoni land.”
