Emirate Appointment Sparks Protest, Two Die In Kano
There has been report of disturbances in the Sabon Gari, Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State following the appointment of a new village head by the state Emirate Council.
The Appointment of Mallam Jamilu Mohammed was rejected by the people of the community who embarked on a protest to show their annoyance over the new appointment.
According to witnesses, trouble started when the new village head was barricaded from the village mosque which led to a faceoff between those in support of Jamilu and those against.
Two persons have so far been confirmed dead and five others injured when police tried to disperse the trouble makers by allegedly opening fire on them.
The District Head of the Sumaila Local Government Area of Kano State, Ibrahim Ado Bayero, through his spokesperson, Ibrahim Chigeri, confirmed the killings at Ruma village.
Bayero said one of the victims, Tukur Mohammed, was the younger brother of the village’s Ward Head, Sanusi Mohammed, who was said to have also been severely injured during the attack.
