The Chairman Benue State Board of Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, Mrs Mimi Adzape -Orubibi has launched a Smart  Attendance Device to replace the manual attendance register to curb truancy in the service.

Mrs Orubibi disclosed this today, during an interview with 247ureports in her Makurdi residence.

She named it “Attendance Register Card Clocking” saying that the ceremony was performed at the board headquarters in Makurdi in the presence of the management and other Area Tax Officers (ATO).

According to her the smart attendance device will be fixed on the screen in the main office and on phones of directors for monitoring of attendance and closure of staff.

Orubibi who explained that the device will check truancy amongst staff of the board said, “when my staff come they will thump print and from the dash board I will know those who came to work and those who didn’t come.

The BIRS Chairman also explained that the device will be distributed to the 38 areas offices of the board across the state.

Orubibi who informed that the Governor, Samuel Ortom, had graciously accepted that the salaries of the board staff will be paid promptly and had placed the board on first line charge stated that “to whom much is given, much is expected”.

It could be recalled that in 2017, Mrs Orubibi launched the Point Of Service,  POS, Automated Machine as part of measures to block leakages in the revenue collection of the board.

She recalled that “when I brought the machine, some people said we have been in this party, we have suffered with the party, you are just coming and you are bringing machine? It is only when you want to steal that you fight against such improvement on revenue collection.

“But we have a Governor who says, if you chop money, money will chop you. The first time I called a meeting, those people didn’t come and so Governor Ortom said I should go ahead to do it and we have done it.”

She expressed satisfaction with the success recorded by the board as a result of the introduction of the machine and expressed the belief that the smart attendance device will also become one of the success stories of the board.
