Immigration To Screen All Foreigners In Benue

Governor Smauel Ortom has urged Nigerian Immigration Service to screen thoroughly foreign nationals entering the State.
Governor Ortom who spoke when the new state Comptroller of the Service visited him in Makurd stressed the need for the Service to collaborate with sister Organisations in the State to realise the set goal.
Ortom said as a responsive government, criminals cannot be allowed to sneak into the the country to unleash terror on the people. “We have a responsibility to safeguard lives and property of our citizens. People should not come from outside to cause hardship for our people. Anyone found should be apprehended and sanctioned according to the law”.
Governor Ortom directed Chairmen of Local Government Councils in the State to also cooperate with the Service to document foreigners with a view to profiling them and monitoring their activities.
He further promised to look into some of the challenges confronting the Service in Benue adding that his administration was already in partnership with Federal Agencies to promote good governance.
Earlier, the new Comptroller Nigerian Immigration Service in the State, Mr. Ishmael Mohammad said he was before the Governor to present himself formerly and assure him and People of the State of their readiness to discharge their duties creditably.
Mr. Mohammad enumerated some of the Service’s challenges and called for logistics support to make them more effective, noting that the open grazing and ranches establishment law enacted by the government would help curtail herdsmen menace.
Mohammad who lamented the service challenges with Cameroonian refugees in the state said they are poised to work with stakeholders to register and monitor all foreigners in the state.
