The troubles within the People Democratic Party [PDP] originating from the reported irregularities over the PDP gubernatorial primary held in Awka against the Anambra elections of November 18, 2017 appears to linger unresolved weeks after the primary. This is as 247ureports.com gathered that a group of party faithfuls from the home local government area [LGA] as the former of governor of Anambra State, Chief Peter Obi took to the streets in front of Aniocha LGA headquarters at Neni town to protest the irregularities of the primary.

Particularly, the aggrieved protesters who assembled numbering a little over four hundred [400] expressed grievance over a perceived sidelining by the PDP primary process. They stated that they were the original members of PDP in Aniocha LGA – and were unaware how the former governor managed to produce a delegate list which was used at the primary election. They charged that unknown names were placed on the delegate list. “None of the names from Aniocha LGA that Peter Obi put in the list were from Aniocha” explained one of the leaders of the protests who gave his name as Stan.

Stan made his stance clear that the PDP risk losing the majority of its core members in Aniocha should the illegality be allowed to stand unsanctioned. They threatened to take their support to the incumbent governor, Willie Obiano.

Stan told 247ureports.com that they have already held closed door meeting with the special assistant on inter-party affairs to the governor, Chief Ben Obi regarding possible cross-carpeting into the All Progressive Grand Alliance [APGA].

The meeting was held yesterday. This was confirmed by Chief Ben Obi who indicated he received up to 400 persons seeking entry into the APGA. “We will gladly accept them into to the party”, said Chief Obi who also hails from the same LGA. He told 247ureports.com that he welcomed them to the party.

Meanwhile, aggrieved aspirants who recently took their grievance to the national chairman in Abuja at Wadata House have yet to reach resolution on the way forward. According to a source who participated in the discussions, the talks remain in limbo. The source expressed hope the imbroglio will be resolved so long as the leadership of the PDP are sincere in their effort to correct the wrongs. “We remain party members. We want a peaceful resolution to the matter. So we remain open to talks until the party fails to do the needful then we will seek external measures to resolve the matter. But for now, we are still talking“.

What is certain amongst the party members is the agreement that the manner the gubernatorial flag bearer, Oseloka Obaze emerged was faulty and marred with irregularities. What is also certain is the agreement that it has become too late to change gubernatorial candidate against the November 18 election. And, “PDP must present a candidate this November”.
