The Northern journalists are to summon an emergency stakeholders’ meeting to have a reappraisal of media operation in the region.
To this end, stakeholders in the media industry in the nineteen northern states and the FCT are expected to brainstorm and find lasting solutions on the challenges of media operation in the area.
Speaking to newsmen today in Bauchi, the Deputy National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists Comrade Muktar Gidado, said the meeting could not have come at a better time than now when the operations of the media in the north, is facing hiccups when compared to the southern media.
Comrade Gidado who said chairmen and secretaries of state councils of the union in the north will be part of the meeting, said topical issues relating to the development of the media will be discussed.
The NUJ deputy president who described the media as a major stakeholder in the entrenchment of the present democratic dispensation in the country, said as fourth estate of the realm, the media plays an important role in the success of any government in the world.
Comrade Gidado said now that elections of new leaders of thye union is approaching, the need for putting the media into the appropriate state cannot be over emphasised.
According to him, date and venue of the meeting will soon be announced.
