Hon Ikenga Mayor Eze, former Executive Chairman of Orlu LGA, former member of the House of Representatives and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called for quick reconciliation in Imo PDP, saying that after the Supreme Court victory to the National Caretaker Committee Chairman of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, it is now time for the party leaders in Imo State to think like adults.

The Ikenga Orlu who has declared his intention to run for the 2019 governorship ticket of the PDP in Imo State made this known in a release he issued in Abuja on Wednesday, noting that since the leadership battle in the party has been won and lost, it was time for the leaders and members of the party to sheathe their swords and embrace peace.

He also noted that “Whenever conflicts are prolonged, the lines get deeper and clearer, making reconciliation more difficult when the dusts settle.

“The reality is that a faction won at the Supreme Court. Because it was protracted, friends and ‘enemies’ were easily recognizable from the ward levels to Wadata plaza.”

He expressed optimism that the wounds in Imo PDP would not “take much long to heal if both parties objectively assess their positions.”

While calling on the Makarfi faction in Imo to “remain magnanimous in victory and spread genuine hands of friendship and accommodation to their brothers and sisters on the other side”, he also called on the Sheriff faction to “also know that there was no way they would win heads or tail.”

“It’s impossible. They danced when Sheriff won at the Appeal Court. It’s also absurd for them to attempt to also claim victory after Makarfi won at the Supreme court.”

Stressing that defeat is not a sweet pill to swallow, he said that “both sides are constant companions. Sometimes you win, Sometimes you lose.”

He added: “The nobility and sportmanship in every Political leader is tested at unfortunate moments. The ability to manage it honourably wins more friends and admirers which will in turn put the other side to test on how they are managing success. The tag, “bad loser”, is not a good one.”

He commended “members of the Sheriff’s faction who still want to remain In the PDP, but they should demonstrate their love for the Party by doing the needful.

“Events in Party Politics change so quickly. Anybody can be in the driving seat again after four years.”

Hon Eze recounted his experience when he returned to the PDP, saying: “When I rejoined the PDP, my ward chairman was not friendly and I understood why and persevered. Today, both my ward and LGA Chairmen accord me the respects that are due me.

“When you miscalculate there are prices to pay going forward. It should be taken in good faith and not grandstanding.”

He also called on the Ezekwem led party executive led by Barr Charles Ezekwem to “rise above the fray by maintaining reasonable neutrality by approaching every aggrieved Party member across the state. His administrative acumen and native wisdom is on trial.”

He noted that “the danger of opposition in disarray in a multi party democracy is that it makes victory easier for the incumbent no matter how bad and hated.
