A syndicate who specializes in stealing parked vehicles has been arrested by the Police in Aba, Abia State.
Commissioner of Police, Mr. Leye Oyebade, who paraded the suspects in Umuahia, told newsmen, that the syndicate is believed to specialize in stealing parked cars at church premises and roadsides in the city.
He disclosed that one of the suspects, Ugochukwu Ude, had while standing beside a Mercedes Benz 190 car with registration number, AG 509 KPR , along Cemetery road, fled as he saw a police patrol team in the area.
The suspect was given a hot chase and arrested by the patrol team. According to the Police, Ude’s confession led to the arrest of another suspect, Chukwuma Ononogbo, and the recovery of the 3 vehicles from the syndicate.
Oyebade added that investigation further revealed that one of the cars, Mercedes Benz V-Boot with registration number, AA 588 ENU, belonged to one Tobias Ogoke, but stolen during Church Service at Assemblies of God Church premises, Abayi, Aba.
He stated that efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate including those who buy the stolen vehicles from them.
