The Executive Governor of Kano State Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR led Kano delegation to the Turkish Embassy in Abuja to meet with the Turkish Ambassador Mr Cakil Hakan.
Governor Ganduje said that they’re in the embassy to discuss some pertinent issues that are of mutual importance to both parties, especially issue of Turkish Airlines flights to Kano, which the Governor pleaded with the Ambassador to appeal to the airline to reconsider their planned closure of the Kano route. He also raised his concerns over reports that some Nigerian students particular from Kano state have been detained in Turkey which he said has raised some serious concerns to him and his government.
His Excellency Dr Ganduje also informed the Ambassador that his administration is willing to expand the existing relationship between Turkey and Kano especially in area of agriculture were Kano State has already sent 60 Youth to learn artificial insemination and are back in the state. He extended a letter of invitation to the Ambassador inviting the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture to Kano for investment in areas of Irrigation and commercial agriculture.
While responding, the Turkish Ambassador Mr Hakan affirmed to the governor and his delegation that Turkish Airlines will continue to fly the Kano route and that no student has been arrested in Turkey, blaming the false reports on mischief makers & rumor mongers. He assured the governor that his government will continue to do business with Kano and Nigeria at large, especially in the areas of Education and Agriculture.
Kano delegation included the Speaker Kano State House of Assembly RT Hon Alhassan Rurum, Commissioner of Commerce Hon Rabiu Bako, President Kano Chamber of Commerce Alhaji Umaru Dansulaika, Executive Secretary Films and Censorship Board Alhaji Afakallah and Special Adviser Solid Minerals Dr Balaraba Ibrahim among others.
