The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Engr. Babachir Lawal, has accused the Chief John Oyegun-led National Working Committee, NWC of the All Progressives Congress, APC, of acts of corruption leading to the prolong crisis rocking the party in Delta and some other States, while Engr. Segun Oni, National Vice Chairman South of the party who represented NWC kept mute.
Lawal speaking at a meeting he convened with factional leaders of the party in the conference room of the SGF Office in Abuja, Monday, lashed out at the national leadership of the party for its tactlessness and corruption in resolving the crisis in the party.
According to report published in Vanguard, the SGF used harsh words on the NWC, “accusing the body of messing up the integrity of the party for crumbs, saying that the crisis in several state chapters of the party was foisted by the leadership of the party.
A source at the meeting stated also that while the SGF was tongue-lashing the NWC, Engr Oni who seems helpless could not rise to the defence of the NWC, a situation which further fueled the rumour that the assertion of SGF might be true.
SGF who before his appointment was the National Vice-Chairman, North-East, felt according our source at the Presidency that members of the NWC lacks the moral ground to midwife reconciliation of the party in states where there are crisis because they have soiled their hands.
The meeting according to media report was boycotted by the South-South Chairman of the party, Chief Hilliard Eta, the Delta state Chairman Prophet Erue Jones and members of the state executives and the party’s 2015 governorship candidate, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor.
The SGF, while charging the Minister of State, (Petroleum), Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, who he accused of failing to show leadership in taking over the running of the party in Delta state, stated: “You have to take charge of the party, Kachikwu. We cannot leave the party in the hands of those people.”
He added that the, “peace and progress of the party cannot be held down because of a few people. How many are they?”
Our source stated further that protest by stakeholder to the fact that Dr. Kachikwu was a new entrant to the party failed, as the SGF shunned the leaders concerned.
