AZHATA COMMUNITY,
OFF KURUDU/OROZO ROAD,
ABUJA.
THE HONORABLE MINISTER,
FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY,
FEDERAL CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY,
AREA 11,GARKI,
ABUJA
Your Excellency,
Your intervention is desperately needed by the residents of Azhata (pronounced Ajata) community off Kurudu/Orozo road to save them from the inhuman noise pollution occasioned by the blaring of music from the open air beer parlour operated by owners of Dazzle Dees night club from 7:00p.m./8:00pm to 2:00a.m/3:00a.m. Sunday to Sunday.
The residents of Azhata community were awakened to the lurid noise from the speakers of the above night club in the afternoon of the 15th of December,2013 which noise lasted till about 5:00a.m. of the next day: the 16th of December, 2013.
sir, despite all entreaties to the proprietors of the night club of the harm and grave inconvenience of the noise from the beer parlour’s speakers, the proprietors have maliciously kept on increasing the volume of the speakers from about 8:00p.m through 3:00a.m. every single day.
When all entreaties to see reason failed we approached the Jikwoyi Divisional Police command to lodge our complaint but on the visit of two female officers to the said night club on the 20th day of December, 2013, the night club manager told the police officers that ‘the station officer and DPO of Jikwoyi police station were his guys’ and refused to honour the police officers.
Sir, true to the night club manager’s boast, the latter never honoured the police’s invitation but instead increased the intensity of the said noise.
When approached, the station officer of Jikwoyi Police station confirmed knowing the night club manager but promised to warn the night club manager to desist from the nuisance and then gave us his phone number to call him if the noise continued unabated.
Sir, to our surprise, despite several calls and text messages to the said station officer, instead of abating, the intensity and duration of the noise pollution has continued to grow to an unbearable level.
Also sir, to the chagrin and disgust of the residents of the community, the proprietors of the night club now regularly engage strip dancers who dance naked in the open and full glare of children and minors of the community.
Aside from that, the once safe and secure community has now become the Hub of unscrupulous elements who freely move about the community from 8:00p.m. through 3:00a.m. EVERY DAY!
An independent investigation sir, will reveal a significant upsurge in the incidence of crime in the community, which has exposed the community to grave security risks especially with incidences of insurgency in the country.
We have since lodged complaints with the Abuja Environmental Protection Board but the staff of the night club refused to accept the notice of Abatement of the board and instead threatened the Board’s official who came to serve the said notice and later compromised by deceiving us that the complaint was in court when none was lodged.
While we are aware of your Command’s laudable efforts to ensure the security of lives and property within the FCT by regulating the operations of beer parlours, night clubs and other entertainment centres, we are humbly calling on you to use your good office to call the owners and operators of Dazzle Dees night club to order.
Sir, an aftermath of the April 7 bombing was the advice by the police spokesperson that residents should avoid crowded areas.
Sir all pleas that the night club should close operations by 10:00p.m.; reduce the noise from its loud speakers and or limit its operations to weekends have been rudely and almost violently rebuffed. The residents of Azhata community living around the night club live in palpable fear of attacks from insurgents and the agents of the night club as a result of mysterious notices pasted on a shop opposite the night club.( pls find attached a photocopy of the notice)
We call on you to come to our aid before we become victims, we do not want to be recipients of government aid or relief materials Sir, don’t take our word for it, please conduct your own investigations to ascertain our plight.
We thank you for your usual attention to the security and welfare of FCT residents,
We remain yours sincerely,
NWALI KINGSLEY
