Unless the Delta State governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa takes urgent steps in stemming the current tussle between the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. John Nani and the Director-General (DG) Special Programmes on Beautification, Mr. Frank Omare, the duo would soon constitute public nuisance.
Omare’s appointment by Okowa has caused unrest to Nani, who sees the former as a threat to his job.
The DG is from Ogbe-ijoh in Warri South West local government area while the Commissioner who from Jesse in Ethiope West local government area are reeling out accusations and counter accusations on each other over duplication of functions by their employer.
Aside making the state capital a site to behold, Omare also has the mandate to clear the drains of waste, demolish houses/make shift structures erected on waterways, a function the Environment Commissioner sees as his exclusive duty.
Speaking with journalists at the Labour House, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Secretariat along Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) road, Asaba, Omare said blackmail makes him more active and better as it gives him strength to work.
“Whatever I am doing today is given to me to do by His Excellency, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, I am not taking anybody’s job. Instead of working you are going about cheap blackmail, I will take over your job”, he threatened.
At press time, efforts to get the Environment Commissioner’s side of the free-for-all was unsuccessful while text message sent to the Commissioner of Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah for verification was not replied.
