The Akwa Ibom Support Group has said the recent attack by a former member of the House of representatives, Hon. Robinson Uwak on the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio was an attempt to extort money from him.

In a press statement in Uyo signed by the President, Chief Imo Udoima and the Secretary, Nnamsenkara Essang, the Group described Mr Uwak as a “political irritant” who was aggrieved because he couldn’t get a ticket to return to the House of Representatives and decided to visit his political frustration on Senator Akpabio.

The release reads: “We wish to draw the attention of the general public to this nuisance called, known and addressed as  Mr Robinson Uwak who was a member of the 7th House of Representatives and who has gone completely berserk. He describes himself as a member of Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Council.

“If not for the Nigerian political system that can throw up charlatans like Robinson Uwak, who would have known of this political irritant that is trying to cast aspersions on the integrity of our revered leader and former Governor, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

“Robinson Uwak is an ingrate of the highest order. This is a young man who was totally unknown and was never in any political equation of the State or even Oron nation. “This is a young man who was running a cybercafé in Surulere, Lagos and was involved in all manner of cyber crimes to make a living. This is the same man that was dusted from oblivion and brought to political limelight by the same Chief Godswill Akpabio he is labouring so hard to dent his image, simply because he couldn’t get the PDP ticket to return to the House of Representatives, as if it is his birth right.

“Reading his recent rantings against Senator Akpabio, one can see a very troubled and unstable young man, who is high on some substances. The mistake that was made was to send the young man to the House of Representatives as the sudden cash he ran into saw him being addicted to the substances. Not being able to maintain such lifestyle after leaving the House of Representatives, since he couldn’t get a PDP ticket to return to the House, and having failed woefully in APC that he defected to, he has found a pastime in pouring his political frustration on Senator Akpabio.

“Because of his lavish lifestyle we heard he is broke but believes he can get a political appointment or a position in the APC administration by attacking Senator Akpabio that is why he adds to his description that he was a member of Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Council.

“His new hate campaign is premised on his belief that Senator Akpabio will call him for settlement and give him some cash to continue his wild lifestyle of sniffing dangerous substances and carrying prostitutes in Abuja and blackmailing. The Senator Akpabio is wiser than being blackmailed by a political irritant who had been clearly rejected by his people in the last election. Why does he think he can blackmail the Senator to fund his wild lifestyle? As a blackmailer, he feels he can get money from Chief Akpabio to  blow away on some wraps of cocaine and prostitutes around but he has failed woefully.

“Perhaps Robinson Uwak has forgotten but we have not forgotten how this conscienceless fellow in his desperation for power doctored a video and caused to be circulated in the Internet alleging sexual scandal against his potential opponent just to dim the opponent’s chances of contesting against him. He should have since learnt his lesson that you cannot get power through blackmail and mud raking. But he doesn’t seem to have learnt his lessons and he is continuing in the same antics against Senator Akpabio.

“Robinson Uwak alias Robin Hood is a young confused man who shouldn’t be taken serious by any man. He is the brain behind the attacks from Oron nation on the nomination of Obong Nsima Ekere as the Managing Director of NDDC using all manner of fictious groups to petition the nomination of Nsima Ekere. He claims he was the one that got Oron to be recognized as an Oil Producing Community and as such, he should be the one that should have been nominated.

“Seeing that the Presidency has ignored him, he resorted to blackmailing and using some Elements from Oro Nation to fight Nsima Ekere’s nomination. The second plan he has is to instigate media war between Obong Umana Okon  Umana and Obong Nsima Ekere. The aim of this war in his infantile imagination is to attract the party to choose him from Oro to fly the party flag come 2019. He is afraid that Nsima Ekere as the Managing Director of NDDC will contest and Umana as the leader of the party might want to contest also.

“Political blackmail is in his DNA but he has failed. His being denied the position, and the prospect of being left in the political wilderness for the next three years with no cash to fund his wild lifestyle has aggravated his political frustration and makes him to pour out invectives on Senator Akpabio, who he thinks was the one who denied him the PDP ticket to return to the House of Representatives and will stop him from becoming anything in the State come 2019.

“We won’t just sit down and allow this boy to rubbish the reputation of our Leader who gained worldwide acclaim for his Uncommon Transformation agenda. How can someone in his right mind having seen all the developmental projects that Obong Godswill Akpabio unleashed on Akwa Ibom State, claim that the Uncommon Transformer “may have embezzled 99% of revenues accruing to Akwa Ibom State between 2007 and 2015” and went ahead to lie against the former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. What substance was this guy high on to make such outlandish claim? We suspect the 99% of revenue he claims Akpabio embezzled exists only in the imagination of his mind, after sniffing the substances for which he is well known.

“Robinson Uwak flies into Akwa Ibom airport built by Chief Akpabio; drives along well paved dualized roads complete with street lights across the state built by Chief Akpabio; sees the magnificent stadium ranked among the best in the world built by Chief Akpabio; sees the flyovers which dot the landscape of Uyo built by Chief Akpabio; sees the International Specialist Hospital built by Chief Akpabio, which the current Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole said with the hospital civil servants have no need to travel abroad for medicare; sees the e-library, the first of its kind in West Africa built by Chief Akpabio; sees the Government House complex built by Chief Akpabio; sees the Ibom Tropicana Entertainment Centre built by Chief Akpabio; sees the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Ikot Ekpene; and the over 4,000 projects scattered across the state, executed through the Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour agency and yet claims he embezzled 99% of revenue which accrued to the state. This is political rascality taken too far.

“He also claimed a faction of Niger Delta Avengers recently mentioned Akpabio as its sponsors. This is as ridiculous as it can get, because we Akwa Ibom people know that our former Governor is an advocate of peace and dialogue. But Robinson Uwak believes he can rake up mud and splash it on Akpabio. This cannot stick and there should be a limit to bad politics and mudslinging.

“We are not against Robinson Uwak and his cohorts writing petitions against Senator Akpabio. To be sure many people have sent tonnes of frivolous and outlandish petitions against Senator Akpabio to the anti-graft agency. But we are against the infantile campaign of calumny against our revered leader who is a benefactor of Robinson Uwak.

“We want to remind Robinson Uwak of his pending criminal matter in Akwa Ibom State and challenge him to step into Akwa Ibom State, call a press conference to repeat these allegations against Akpabio. He should know that his co-conspirators who were apprehended and currently in prison whom he has abandoned are all still alive and they may be brought to testify how he armed them to unleash violence against his perceived political opponents. He may take the wise counsel that those who live in glass houses should not throw stones,” the Group concluded.
