With the conclusion of the field exercise at the Edo State electioneering campaign today, the tension over the likely outcome of the results remain uncharacteristically high beyond mere gubernatorial contest – to resemble a national contest between the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress [APC] and the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP].
Information reaching 247ureports.com from ground reports collated from various sources indicate that the race is tight. The margin of victory is expected to be slim. But out of the votes counted by agents on the ground, PDP is reported to have the lead over APC. The lead by PDP is less than 6000 votes after collation at about 727 polling units out of the 2672 polling units in the state. Sources close to the activity on the ground expect the lead to expand beyond the 6000 votes.
But alleged rigging activities on the ground by involved political parties are said to be taking place at a desperate pace. The PDP agents have alleged that the out going governor of the State may have become ‘too involved’ in the management of the election that it has raised concerns within the opposition party. They alleged that the Governor has sworn to coerce the election official to either declare his choice candidate the winner or declare the election inconclusive. 247ureports.com could not conclusively confirm the allegation. Thumb printing is reported ongoing at Opoji, Esan Central Local Government Area.
What may be striking to this election is the manner the stakeholders within the ruling party, APC lost the exercise within their various polling units. The APC national chairman lost in his polling unit to the PDP. The State Governor lost in his home town polling unit. The APC gubernatorial candidate narrowly won his unit.
According to unofficial but reliable reports from agents on the ground, the PDP has won more local governments than the APC. The APC has yet to win a local government. It is confirmed that the PDP won Oredo LGA
