Following the declaration of Ali Madu-Sheriff by the Appeal Court as the legal Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairman, the faction in Delta State has swung into action to unseat the Barr. Kingsley Esiso-led executives out of the PDP state secretariat in Asaba.
The Sheriff faction who reacted after the declaration of Sheriff said they have the right to quit the Esiso-led executives in state out of the secretariat, noting that the Esiso’s executive are illegal and cannot occupy the party secretariat.
The kangaroo convention held in the state where the party chairman and others were hand-picked by the state governor Ifeanyi Okowa was without the support of party faithful thereby creating rancour in the party.
A stalwart of Sheriff’s faction in the state who spoke on condition of anonymity said there will be a parallel EXCO in the state soon.
“We held a meeting at Agbor recently which was chaired by the South-south Zonal Deputy national chairman of the party, Dr. Cairo Ojogboh who briefed the state executives committee of Ali Modu-Sheriff faction that in no time, they will take over the party secretariat in the state that is occupied by the faction of Markafi”.
He noted that the party under the leadership of Sheriff would assume full authority and leadership from the national down to the wards level, adding that haven declared him by a competent court, any moment from now Delta State executives would be inaugurated.
Efforts made to reach the Publicity Secretary and the chairman Barr. Esiso proved abortive.
Meanwhile, Chief Udeme who is to be made the chairman of the party from Delta Central Senatorial District, said that the manner the party is been run like a private business by Governor Okowa, Prof. Sam Ejite Oyovbaire, Dame Nkem Okwuofu, was not in accordance with the party’s constitution.
According to him, some elders of the party who opposes them were been edged out from party affairs, adding that there is ripples among the Esiso executives.
“In some cases, there are infighting among them, leading to the inability of principal officers to sign cheque, we will soon inject the illegal executives out of the secretariat to take over the party affairs in the state in which we will ensure that all members will be carried along in accordance with our constitution not as a one man business. The crisis is also affecting some PDP local government executives”.
At press time, it was learnt that one Hon. Idewu Onwudinjo, from Delta North, would be the Secretary of the party.
