Scores Displaced By Torrential Rain In Asaba

Flooding again, over the weekend, wreaked havoc in Asaba, the Delta State capital, making several residents homeless while properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.

The disaster followed heavy down pour on Sunday afternoon flooding Okpanam road, making the Police Command unmotorable.

The popular Mariam Babagida way where the state secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is located was not left out while residents of Direct Labour Agency (DLA) Road and its adjoining streets were sacked.

Many residents of Asaba, the latest victims of flooding, especially those living close to water channels were during the weekend sacked from their homes following the rain which lasted for about three hours, while some homes were heavily flooded.

The worst hit areas were Ogbe-sovwe, Umuagu, Ogbe-awo, stop abortion and the popular Nnebisi Road was at a standstill as vehicular movements was hindered by the continuous out pour of the rains and the heavy erosion coming from the Okpanam area.

For fear of been washed away by the torrential flood, tricycles also known as Keke napep refused to move even when there were passengers who were ready to board Keke despite drenching rain.
