Four occupants of a Sports Utility Vehicle, who members of the same family, had escaped death in Aba, Abia state,  after their car got stuck on a railway track with an oncoming train.

Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that as the train approached the Okigwe road railway crossing blaring horns at top speed, the four passengers abandoned the car and scampered to safety.

“The driver of the vehicle was about driving past the railway crossing, but did not see the oncoming train on time. The train was on top speed; seeing danger, the driver and his family members quickly abandoned their car as the train was few metres away. The train hit the car so hard and dragged it to a distance before the car fell off the track,” eyewitnesses, said.

Though no life was lost in the incident, the car was badly damaged as the train hit its side and dragged it along the rail track before it fell off.

One of the family members who escaped from the car, collapsed, but was later revived.
