The chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Micah Jiba who was the President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), has been foeced to resign his position today in Abuja, during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
An acting president in person of Ibrahim Ahmed Karaye, has now emerged.
Jiba in his resignation massage advised the newly acting ALGON president to continue with the pursuit of the actualisation of autonomy for the local government administration in Nigeria.
“after due consultation with my family members and other higher authorities I deemed it fit to volunteerily resign in the spirit of democracy” he said.
When our correspondent sought to known hon. Jiba suddenly decided to resign it was gathered that some forces who were not comfortable with a PDP member as president of the association forced him to step down.
Kereya, was unanimously nominated and declared winner after the outgoing president resigned.
The acting president who is the chairman of Kereya Local Government Area, Kano State will complete as the acting president until the tenure of Micah Jiba which ends next year.
Kereya in his acceptance speech commended the outgoing president for stepping down his position.
He called for the support of all the local government chairmen in his bid to reposition the association and champion their course.
ALGON comprises all local government chairmen in 774 local governments in Nigeria.
