*No, I won’t quit partisan politics, replied elder statesman
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has enjoined elder statesman and member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board Of Trustees, BOT, chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu to denounce the membership of his political party, immediately, if he is ready to be remembered as a statesman
The governor gave the charge in Owerri, the state capital, during the child dedication church service of Emmanuel Kamsiriochukwu Iwuanyanwu, son of Chief Iwuanyanwu which held at the Cathedral of the Transfiguration Of our Lord, CATOL.
Okorocha, who described Iwuanyanwu as a statesman urged Chief Iwuanyanwu to quit partisan politics and become a neutral politician so that every Imo politician would pay allegiance to him.
The governor stated that with the level of his achievement in life, Iwuanyanwu was bigger than all political parties in the state and should take a non-partisan position as a father.
He insisted that Iwuanyanwu’s membership of the PDP only confined him to a box as an opposition politician.
“Iwuanyanwu is our father in politics but I want to urge him to quit politics now. I want him to denounce his membership of the PDP and become a non partisan politician because he is bigger than any political party “.
The governor however thanked God for the birth of the new baby and congratulated Chief Iwuanyanwu on the occasion.
Okorocha also used the opportunity to invite his predecessor, Sir Ikedi Ohakim, Chief Emeka Ihedioha and other PDP top notch to join him in delivering good governance to the people of the state.
He enjoined them to drop their bitter feelings against him , by understanding that politics ended with the campaigns and elections and governance has set in.
Reacting to the governor’s advice in an interview, Iwuanyanwu told the governor that he was on his own in his comment, saying that he would not leave PDP nor quit partisan politics.
According to him, he would want to be in the mainstream politics and ensure that right decisions were made about leadership, adding however that that would not stop him from saying the truth as a statesman.
He described his son as a child of destiny judging from the fact that he was born in December and dedicated to God in Easter, which he said are the two most important moments in the christaindom.
The political stalwart said that God was at the center of his successes in life, adding that he would have died if not for the grace of God.
In his sermon, Bishop Cyril Okorocha called on politicians to lead with the fear of God because everybody will give account of his stewardship before God.
The prelate maintained that there was no gain in playing bitter politics, urging the politicians to place the interest of the people ahead of their personal ostentation .
