The leader of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA in Anambra State, Mr Godwin Ezeemo has called on the people of Anambra Central to jettison old politicians who have been tried in various offices before now for fresh ones if they want result.
Ezeemo in an interview with journalists at his country home, Umuchu, Aguata local government area stated that most of the politicians seeking to represent the people of Anambra Central senatorial zone in the rerun election which is yet to be scheduled have all been entrusted with public offices before.
The Appeal Court Sitting in Enugu had last December annulled the election of Senator Mrs Uche Ekwunife of the Peoples Democratic party, calling for a repeat election.
The INEC on its part acting on the judgment of the Appeal Court excluded the PDP and its candidate, over inappropriate primary election, while the APC candidate in the election, Dr Chris Ngige had withdrawn from the race after having been appointed a minister.
The Rerun election which had earlier been scheduled for 5th March was latter postponed indefinitely by the INEC after the PDP obtained an order of the federal High Court restraining INEC from conducting the election without the PDP.
Chief Victor Umeh, the candidate of the APGA and former Governor Peter Obi, who have been touted as the would-be candidate of the PDP have been locked in a bitter rivalry, over who represents the zone at the red chambers of the national assembly.
But Ezeemo while speaking with journalists said that both men have at one time or the other been entrusted with the affairs of the state, and cannot be said to have performed very creditably, and charged the people of the zone to shun them and go for a fresh hand.
“PPA has a very credible candidate in the person of Chief Mike Igwilo. What I am telling the people of Anambra Central is that they know the other candidates, and they cannot be adjudged to have done too well, so it is time for them to try a new person.
“In PPA, we believe that seeking political office is to go and work for the people, so we do not share money. People must know what they want and go for it.” Ezeemo said.
Speaking on the silence that has been maintained by all the stakeholders, and even INEC, which has continued to deny the people of the zone of representation at the senate, Ezeemo said the silence was as a result of non announcement of the date of the election.
“Once the date of the elections are announced, you will begin to see activities everywhere in the zone. But I believe that INEC is taking its time to ensure that the election they will conduct will stand the test of time.
“For us, we have presented Mike Igwilo to the people of the zone, and if they need result, if they need someone who will deliver, then they will send him. All the other candidates have names, but they have disappointed us in their previous offices.
