A veteran journalist and social critic, Sanusi Muhammad, has debunked newspaper reports that the head of Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI), Major General Letum Wiwa was invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for questioning related to the on-going investigation on how funds budgeted for arms purchase were diverted to politics by the embattled sacked National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (Rtd).
In a statement to 247ureports, Sanusi said, “From an independent investigation on the claimed invitation of General Wiwa, it was discovered to be a friction of the imagination of the authors of that story that appeared in some Nigerian newspapers. As journalists and watchdogs of the society, we should always strive to dish out unbiased and cogent stories than dishing out concocted lies just to tarnish or smear the images of others probably on sponsorship
“General Letum Wiwa is one of the most disciplined, decent, fine and loyal military officers serving in the Nigerian army today. He has remained committed to the ideals of his profession and has been serving with passion and commitment to the unity of Nigeria that should not attract him any ridicule, insult or dragged into an issue he knows nothing about just to please his traducers
“As head of DMI, General Wiwa operates the directorate within available resources at his disposal to confront challenges. As part of its responsibility to Nigerians, EFCC has also debunked the mischief published by a cross section of the media against Gen. Wiwa. We should always try to crosscheck facts before rushing to the press at least in the interest of the journalism profession and peace of our country”, he said
