A group under the auspices of Igbo Youth Leaders has urged former Abia State governor and candidate of the Progressive People Alliance (PPA), in the March 5, 2016 Abia North senatorial rerun, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu to step down for Senator Mao Ohuabunwa who is the PDP candidate, stressing that the latter is best positioned to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the zone.

The youth leaders who met at Bende, Abia State in a communiqué signed by its Conveners, Kingsley Chiedozie, Desmond Ugwuoke, among others, insisted that the job of legislation at the highest level in the land requires a cerebral, proactive and level headed personality, adding that Ohuabunwa posses these qualities above other contestants.

According to the group,”The taste of the pudding is in the eating and Senator Mao Ohuabunwa’s short stay at the senate so far has been robustly rewarding. While we commend Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, the closest rival to Senator Ohuabunwa in the contest for his business acumen and prowess, we make bold to state that he (Kalu) does not yet have what it takes to represent the zone in the Senate. It is not all about money or grandstanding but quality and superior legislative acumen. It is not all about profit and loss but cerebral and representative candour.”

The youth leaders noted that Kalu’s area of specialization is business and sports and not law making and urged him to support Ohuabunwa.

“ In view of this obvious facts , we Igbo Youth leaders call on all  Abia North electorates to troop out en mass on the 5th of March and vote for Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, ‘Follow better” , a man of the people, friend of Igbo Youths, humble and God-fearing man.

“We call on Chief Orji Uzor Kalu and other less known contestants to step down for Senator Mao Ohuabunwa and join hands with him to move Abia North, Abia state and Igbo land forward.”

The group commended Ohanaeze Ndigbo for dissociaing themselves from a purported endorsement of Kalu by a fictitious entity who claimed to be a member of Imeobi Ohanaeze.
