4 Suspects In Police Net Over Child Trafficking

The child trafficking syndicate

The Abia State Police command have arrested some members of a child trafficking syndicate terrorizing the state and rescued three victims.

The suspects include Chidubem Nwachukwu, alias Isaac, Florence Nwokocha, Chukwunonye Emerenini and Onyekwere Okeiyi.

 

247ureports sources said the suspected child traffickers were arrested following alarm raised by one of their victims who was lured from Aba to Umuahia, by Nwachukwu who promised to marry and take care of her aged 6 months and two years.

 

Thrilled at the promise of marriage and taking care of her two children, the victim who was begging for alms at an undisclosed motor-park in Aba with her two children followed Nwachukwu to Umuahia where he took her to a beauty salon to fix her hair without knowing that the latter had arranged with members of his gang to steal the children.

 

Sensing that her children have been stolen, the victim raised the alarm leading to the arrest of the suspect who later confessed and disclosed the identities of the members of his gang.

 

Other members of his gang including a female amputee, who claimed to be a staff of the social welfare unit of the Umuahia North Local government Area, are now in police net.

 

Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, DSP Udeviotu Onyeke, who confirmed the incident said the suspects led the Police to the rescue of the two children and another child stolen from his parents at Ikeduru LGA, Imo state, added that the police have launched a manhunt for other members of the gang and appealed to the public to volunteer useful information that could lead to their arrest.
