Fear seems to have gripped the camps of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) and that of the All Progressives Congress(APC), regarding the March election of the Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, following the planned entry into the race of former Governor, Peter Obi.
Obi a source in Awka told 247ureport this afternoon has been working secretly to ensure he clinches the ticket of the PDP for the election, and following favourable moves he has made, the former governor may before the week runs out announce his entry into the race officially.
Our source who preferred to remain anonymous and also claims to be close to Obi said that the reason he has not announced his entry is because he does not want to be shamed in the case that he loses the ticket of the party, but as things stand in the party presently, Obi has been favored over Chief Osita Chidoka and the Trio of Obiora, Annie and Sylvester Okonkwo.
“The former governor has been meeting top notchers in the party and as things stand, he has been favoured to fly the party’s flag, and that is why he is now bold enough to speak about it as we hope that he will do before the week runs out.” The source said.
Obi if he clinches the ticket of PDP will run against his former party’s National chairman, Chief Victor Umeh, his former candidate, Senator Uche Ekwunife whom many said is already working to join Labour Party and Barr Sharon Ikeazor of APC who is largely regarded as a rookie.
Feelers had emerged last weekend that Obi may join the race, but his media assistant, Mr Valentine Obienyem quickly stated that Obi has not joined the race, but has been wooed by several well meaning people in the state to join, and that even though he had said he will never contest for any position after his tenure, he may reconsider that as it was not cast in stone.
Our correspondent learnt that the choice of Obi over the other party faithful gunning for the ticket was because of his popularity and regarding that he has the resources to finance his election without relying on the party.
PDP will also use his victory if he wins to shore up their dwindling profile in the state, especially since after the defeat of President Jonathan by President Buhari last year.
