A gang of armed robbers have shot dead two Policemen and injured several others in Aba, Abia state.
24ureports.com gathered that trouble started for the police patrol team from the Azuka Police Division when they were alerted to a robbery operation in Ogbor Hill.
According to the Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ezekiel Udeviotu Onyeke, the police patrol team got a distress call from a resident that armed robbers were operating in their area.
As they raced to the area, the robbers had ended their operation and were on their way back when they met the police team and opened fire on them.
“Two of our men were shot dead while others who sustained injuries were rushed to the hospital for medical attention. We have gone to the place where the incident happened, but the victims said that they were not able to recognize the face of the robbers. We will track them down, they can only run and not hide,” he said.
247ureports.com further gathered that the armed robbers who operated on a motorcycle had earlier robbed a supermarket at Ukaegbu junction, along Aba—Ikot Ekpene road.
The Police spokesman assured that the police were on the trace of the fleeing robbers and urged the public not to hesitate to volunteer useful information that could lead to their arrest.
