The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has dispelled rumours that the commission has fixed a date for the senatorial election billed to hold in Anambra Central as a result of Appeal Court ruling.
Rumour had earlier gone out that the election is scheduled to hold on 5th March.
The Public Relations Officer of the commission in Anambra, Mr Frank Egbo told our correspondent that so far, a date has not been fixed for the election, but certainly, it will come from come from its Abuja office.
He added that even though there has not been a fixed date, preparation is on-going as election is a continuous thing, and that the staffs of the commission are always at work, perfecting strategy for improved elections.
“That is the reason we come to work every day. Whether there is election or not, our staff always come to work, and the reason is to prepare for any on coming election.
“We do not just go home and sleep after general elections, rather we continue to work every day, so you cannot say that preparations for the Anambra Central election has not started yet,” Egbo said.
The Appeal Court sitting in Enugu had in December annulled the election of Senator Uche Ekwunife, and calling for a fresh election before 90 days.
The candidates in the election have also been jostling for support, to ensure that they win the election.
The major candidates for the election include; Senator Uche Ekwunife, who was the candidate for the PDP during the general election, who has also moved to the APC, and Chief Victor Umeh of the APGA.
