The National Agency for food and Drug Administration and control (NAFDAC) has sealed Kev. Chem. Industry cosmetic in Enugu for alleged none registering the company with NAFDAC.
The state coordinator of the agency, Mr. Ikechukwu Okoye speaking with newsmen in Enugu on Thursday when the enforcement team of the agency visited the company at Abakpa Nike.
He said that the manufacturer by name Mr. Kelvin Eze was faking some products by labeling them made in England, America and USA while the products is being produced at Abakpa Nike.
But Eze denied that he never faked any product even as he said he has commenced the process of registering the products with agency.
He said the name of the product is his but he put overseas address to get our people to patronize the product.
Products he produces are body cream, shampoo, hair cream, hair conditions and other hair treatments.
However, NAFDAC coordinator said the agency would sanction him by closing down the factory stressing that Eze was using two shops for the business one for office and the other one was where he was producing the products which he said violates the rule of setting-up factory.
Okoye said that what they needed from the public was information, adding that somebody gave them the information and his address and they came and caught him read handed producing the products.
“Once we came we will perform our duty to the best of our knowledge. If you want to buy any product check the NAFDAC registration number, production date, expiration date and the address of where the products were produced.
“So if you see some products without NAFDAC number be on your toes because what we register is NAFDAC registration number most times when they are faking they just put only NAFDAC number” he said.
The coordinator explained that there is what they call global listing products, it is when you allow super markets to bring in certain products but the only thing was that they only sale those products in their outlet.
He added, that was why when you go to Shoprite, game or all these big supermarkets you would see some products without NAFDAC registration number but it would be in their global list.
The coordinator urged the public to call the agency gave them direction on how to locate the place if they noticed any illegal business around your area adding that the agency do not need to know the person’s name.
He explained that a lot of people were producing in the country added that what you needed to do was to meet the normal standard as they do not need to look at all these big companies to meet their standard.
