The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry has announced the winners of its 2016 Excellence Awards. The winners were announced yesterday at a Press Conference held in Abuja.
The chamber’s President, Mr. Tony Ejinkeonye, in his opening remarks, said that the  Chamber is made up of registered businesses and institutions in Abuja, he added that the Chamber is a non-profit and non-political organization that represents the common interests of the business community in Abuja.
Speaking further in his speech he said, the award ceremony was given the theme ‘promoting the spirit of Excellence’. “It is aimed at rewarding organizations who has contributed to the growth of the Nigerian economy”, he said while adding that “it is to encourage other organizations to contribute effectively in growing the nation’s economy”.
He urged the Press to support the Chamber in making the award the most prestigious award for businesses in Nigeria.
The Chamber’s Deputy President, Barr. Jude Igwe – who also gave a speech – gave a rundown of the processes that were followed to determine the winners of the award. He revealed that the parameters included examining annual reports, company website, CBN annual reports, and pertinent  publications in the public domain.
Announcing the winners of the awards, Barr. Jude Igwe stated that there were five categories of awards. He named the categories and the winner as follows;
- Investor of the year: Helios Investment Partner and the Vitol Group.
- The most innovative business idea: Airtel Nigeria’s Recharge and Hit-A-Million Promo.
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) : The Nigeria LNG Limited
- Outstanding Company of the Year (Commerce): Olam Nigeria Limited.
- Outstanding Company of the Year(industry): Dangote Cement
Barr. Jude Igwe stated that these awards will be presented to the winners at the excellence awards ceremony which will hold on the 24th of February, 2016. Former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili is slated to give the keynote address at the award ceremony. Other dignitaries, including State Governors are expected to grace the event.
