Information reaching 247ureports.com revealed that a major crisis is looming in the Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the manner in which Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu has continued to neglect members who worked for his emergence as governor.
The aggrieved party members accused Ikpeazu of running a government where only his native Obingwa kinsmen are being favoured in majority of appointments and contracts he made, leaving out other sections of the state.
Members of the party are also said to be aggrieved over the appointment of commissioners and special Advisers, most of whom were recycled, making it impossible for upcoming and other qualified person to serve the state.
247ureports.com gathered that even the state PDP executive members are said to be complaining about Ikpeazu’s neglect of the party and its members.
A chieftain of the party from Abia North senatrial zone who spoke to 247ureports.com on the condition of anonymity for fear of sanctions, alleged that more party members have left the ruling PDP to either the opposition All Progressive Congress(APC) or All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA ), due to the neglect by Ikpeazu
The chieftain who is a former Commissioner in the state, further stated; “Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu is killing the PDP in Abia state with his neglect of members other than those from his local government , Obingwa. He is running a government of Obingwa people. If you take critical look at his administration, only the Obingwa people have been favoured in contracts and patronage. Any contract awarded in the state is being done or recommended by his Obingwa people. The governor is not even accessible. I served as a Commissioner,but he has refused to pay our severance allowance and other entitlements. Is this fair? Look at what we suffered in the election to ensure the party won in my local government. It was not easy because of Alex Otti and APGA’s influence. Now, he has abandoned us. Ikpeazu is not a good party man.”
Another member, Michael Iro Kalu, a native of Ohafia , added that unlike the era of the immediate past Theodore Orji where members of the PDP were empowered through the donation of vehicles and cash gifts, including aqward of contracts, Ikpeazu runs an administration where even a section of his Ukwa/Ngwa clan feel alienated in governance.
“ PDP members appear to have elected the wrong person in Okezie Ikpeazu who does not have the interest of members and future of the party at heart. Last week, I ran into a friend from Isiala Ngwa who was furious that Okezie Ikpeazu does not appreciate the PDP members gave him at the election. Now, it is either yiu are from Obingwa or nothing for you. What is the gain of the Isiala Ngwa man in this administration?Nothing. If the governor continues in this manner, im afraid PDP may lose the state to the opposition in the next election.”
A road contractor in the state, told 247ureports.com that he once sought a contract from Ikpeazu on the recommendation of a former governor, but the governor snubbed him despite repeated appeals.
However, in a bid to avert the impending crisis , a PDP source told our correspondent that Ikpeazu has met with several stakeholders of the party and explained to them that nobody was being marginalized. While the stakeholders disagreed but were afraid to confront the governor with glaring facts for fear of victimization.
