The Buhari Media Support Group (BMSG), has commended the apex Igbo socio-cultural group, the Ohaneze Ndigbo, for coming out to condemn outbreak of protest by pro-Biafra group.
The group described agitations in some parts of the South East and South South as uncalled for.
In a statement signed in Abuja on Tuesday by the group’s national coordinator, Muhammed Labbo and the secretary, Cassidy Madueke, said It was indeed clear from the manner of the protests that the protesters were misguided and teleguided by selfish politicians and political jobbers who care only for their interest and little for the generality of the Igbo people.
“At a time like this when a new people’s government under President Muhammadu Buhari is in power and determined to improve the lives of Nigerians without exception, the hand-working and focused people in the South-East do not need the distraction of the pro-Biafra protesters and their sponsors.
The future of Ndigbo and indeed other ethnic groups in Nigeria is better guaranteed in a large, fertile and resource-rich country like Nigeria.
“The BMSG maintains that despite the perception of marginalization and neglect by the pro-Biafran protesters, it is not enough to cause the disunity and disintegration of the Nigerian State. It further noted that these complaints are not peculiar to the South East zone alone as they are common across the country.”
Continuing, it said “The harrowing experience of the last civil war in Nigeria, 1967 – 1970, is not one which the present generation should relieve moreso when the dramatis personae on both sides, in that war declared that it was a mistake that should never have happened.”
