A group under the aegis of Forum of Civil Society Organizations (FCON) on Thursday disassociated itself from a planned protest against Chairman of the Code of Code Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar.
Umar as the Chairman of CCT is trying Senate President Bukola Saraki for false declaration of asset.
The forum National President, Comrade Olayemi Success in Abuja said it was an attempt to intimidate the judiciary because of the case against the Senate President.
He warned members of the coalition never to allow themselves be used in any anti-corruption protest.
Olayemi said those calling for protest are inposters as the forum would never call for such protest since it is in total support of the anti-corruption posture of the present administration.
His words: “It is part of our objective to partner with the Government at all levels and any other progressive minded people to stamp out corruption in Nigeria, without any doubt, when you fight corruption, corruption will fight back, this is exactly what is happening today, as some impostors are been mobilized to stage a massive protest against the judiciary and the government for standing firm against corruption.
“Therefore, we call on all our member organizations and other Nigerians not to honour such invitation as we must collectively join hand with Mr. President to stamp out corruption in Nigeria with striking examples of jailing corrupt Nigerians irrespective of how highly placed such may be.”
He therefore reaffirmed the forum’s support for the government’s fight against corruption saying it is a right step in the right direction.
“We want to make it clear that as the umbrella body of the civil society organizations, we are not party to the protest being planned by some impostors claiming to be representing the umbrella body of the civil society in support of some desperate corrupt politicians,” he said.
