The peaceful procession of protesters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State yesterday [November 10] may have begun peaceful but it immediately degenerated to bloody protest where scores of peaceful protesters were injured while some others suffered life-threatening injuries. Information available to 247ureports.com indicate that the peaceful protests turned violent after the peaceful protesters approached Aba road enroute to a predetermined route by the organizers of the protests.

As the protesters departed from Aba road, they were met with stern looking military agents of the federal republic of Nigeria – who open fire – firing canisters containing ‘teargas’ and smoke bombs. The procession immediately turned from peaceful to ruckus. The atmosphere changed and tempo changed. The military men and woman… began chasing the protesters who were already retreating back to Aba road. While chasing, the soldiers used butt of their riffles to hit the heads of the retreating protesters. The streets turned bloody with the blood of the protesters.

Some escaping youths immediately discovered that they could not escape the violence of the Nigerian soldiers – as the soldiers had already blocked all escape routes. The youths ran into the markets to escape the advancing federal troops. While inside the markets, the soldiers proceeded to destroy making of the items belonging to traders of Igbo extraction.
