Several persons have been feared killed while nine others including
four staff of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) at the
Malkoli camp for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Yola the
Adamawa state capital.
Our Correspondent who visited the camp disclosed that the attack was
allegedly carried out by a suspected suicide bomber at about 10:50am
Friday.
The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa state Police Command, Gabriel
Adaji who was at the camp told news men that the bomber might have
sneaked into the camp even though investigations will determine what
happened.
C.P Adaji who also confirmed the number of casualties revealed that
the new IDPs are to be rescreened again for proper identification.
He confirmed that the blast came from an Improvised Explosives Device (I.E.D).
Answering questions, the Police boss said more security will be
provided at the camps.
In an interview with newsmen also, camp coordinator of NEMA Alhaji
Saad Bello disclosed that 297 IDPs were brought in Thursday the 10th
of September from Madagali and 17 from Sambisa.
Alhaji Saad said so far three persons were killed and nine, injured
including four of his staff who have been conveyed to the Specialist
hospital, Yola.
Also in his remarks, the Executive Secretary of Adamawa State
Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) Haruna Furo said in response to a
question that the various camps have their different dimensions.
The Malkoli camp according to our Correspondent was swarmed by
soldiers, Police, Civil Defence, Road safety, Immigration, Man O War,
and the Red Cross while the newly sworn in Commissioner for
Information of Adamawa state Malam Ahmed Sajoh also visited the camp
to see things for himself.
Meanwhile, many people have expressed worry over the bomb blast
stressing that the security agencies need to be more vigilant.
