The People’s Democratic Party has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of plotting to destabilise the party(PDP) in Anambra state.
It said the party had uncovered a plot by the APC to infiltrate the ranks of PDP members in the state in its bid to ruin the Deputy Senate President Chief Ike Ekweremadu and the National Publicity Secretary of the party,Olisa Metuh.
Former state Chairman of the party in the state , Prince Ken Emeakayi raised the alarm at the weekend in a press conference in Awka,the Anambra state capital
He said the APC was using some money bags in the state who always love to be at the corridor of power to achieve the plot.
But in a reaction,the state Publicity secretary of APC Mr.Okelo Madukaife said ” PDP is insignificant to us;that party has long disappeared in the state.For over 10 years I have not seen anybody that has won election under that party without rigging.I think they are just afraid of their shadow.We don’t even know they are having any congress;you are just telling me.
Loading ...But PDP insisted that, “It has come to the open that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has infiltrated the ranks of PDP in Anambra state. Some money bags in Anambra state who are desperate for power, who yesterday were singing praises of PDP and Jonathan, who could not afford to stay one minute without being at the corridors of power, have already switched over to APC.
“They have been mandated by the APC to destabilize PDP in the state.They are people who are now members of APC but who are still claiming to be members of PDP in Anambra state . They have perfected plans to scuttle the PDP congresses in Anambra state scheduled to take place from Tuesday to Saturday.”
The PDP chieftain who is recontesting for state chairmanship of the party in the Saturday congress of the party called on the security operatives to take note of the plot, adding that the plotters had already started finding fault in the planned congresses and were bent on ensuring that it ended in crisis.
He said, “ they are planning to unleash their hired thugs being brought into Anambra state to be deployed into wards, local governments and other places, to attack members of the party, to attack officials of the party during the exercise in Anambra state so as to give the impression that PDP members in Anambra state are fighting over the congresses.
“We are making this call to the security agencies and telling Nigerians that this is the plot of the APC: and why Anambra state one may ask? The APC in addition to the money already mapped out by the money bags in Anambra state has moved so many funds for this operation in Anambra state.
“What they are going to do, according to our reliable sources is that at each point they will be telling members of the PDP that they are protesting against the activities of the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh who is from Anambra state.
“We wish to tell the whole world why APC is targeting Olisa Metuh, it has nothing to do with PDP. APC felt in their own calculation that Chief Olisa Metuh was architect of what they called the coup against APC at the National Assembly leadership issue.
“For crying out loud, Olisa Metuh was at the National Assembly during the inauguration of of our members, he was there to supervise and coordinate PDP legislatures towards leading them to the direction of the interest of the party and at the end of the day, by APC self-inflicted wound, they lost at the power play in the leadership of the National Assembly.
“And now APC having not recovered from that feels the only way they will destabilize PDP at that level is to come here and put pressure on Olisa Metuh and the party here so that Olisa Metuh would be forced to come to Anambra and the South-East, while that is going on he will lose focus at the national, Ekweremadu will run down here, he will lose focus there so that they will be able to remove Ekweremadu there, that’s the agenda you see that is playing on.”
On Saturday some stakeholders of the PDP led by the party’s governorship candidate in the 2013 polls in Anambra state,Comrade Tony Nwoye, in an emergency meeting in Awka, the state capital , accused Olisa Metuh of trying to torpedo the state congresses of the party scheduled to commence on Tuesday by hoisting on them unpopular candidates.
They alleged that Metuh had already handpicked those he would want to occupy various positions in all the levels of the party’s congresses.
They called on the National Working Committee of the party to call Metuh to order to avert crisis.
Their communique signed by Mrs Jessy Balonwu , a former Commissioner in the state , Kelue Molokwu , former deputy speaker of the Anambra state House of Assembly among others maintained that the processes for the congresses had been hijacked by Metuh’s loyalists.
