Barely one month, the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha declared the intension of his administration to transform the state into a modern model state, through a programme christened “Imo my Pride,” the state government has embarked on reconstruction of Owerri city roads.

 

The state Governor while touring round the city, said that the gesture will go a long way to make the state capital the cleanest city in the country.

 

Owelle Rochas who directed all artisans in the state capital to move to their permanent site in Avu Owerri West LGA, decried the rate at which mechanics, artisans litter the city.

 

“I will want Imo to wear a new look that will be envy of other states”, he explained.

Governor Okorocha warned truck drivers to desist from plying the state capital during the day, and made them to understand that the state government has concluded arrangement to set up task-force/mobile court that will apprehend and prosecute offenders.

 

He frowned at the rate which buses and commuters abandon their various parks provided to them by the state government, and prefer to block the city; adding that the state government has banned street trading.

 

Okorocha cautioned those erecting church buildings in every places in the capital to seek government approvals to avoid demolishing the structure and regretted the way erosion has ravaged the state capital as a result of wrong citing of structures without following the master plan of the state government and made them to understand that government will demolish those illegal structures that obstruct drainage.

At Orji mechanic village, Owelle Okorocha said that the area is supposed to be a green belt area and decried the rate at which people build shops here and there as government has started demolishing the shanties to grass up the area and build structures that  enhance the beauty of the city.  “We can’t afford to have stinking looking city.”

 

He advised those building gates and casket along Amakohia to move to government designated areas as government is set up to have an organized looking city and appealed to all indigenes of the state to bear with him during this period to make Imo state a beautiful city.
