Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has charged political leaders to be wise and focused in decision making for sustainable development in the country.
Speaking at an end of tenure thanksgiving service on Sunday in Asaba, Governor Uduaghan said that political leaders needed to be focused, bold and wise in carrying out their duties, noting that “if you must step on toes, step on them to move the state and country forward, there is nothing too much to sacrifice to move the state and country forward.”
He said that states needed to have harmonious relationship between the governor and his deputy, between the various arms of government so as to ensure peace and sustainable economic growth.
“Delta State is a place of peace, we need to uphold peace, there has been nothing like acrimony between the governor and deputy in Delta State. My charge to the incoming administration is to ensure that this cordial relationship must continue so as to sustained growth and development in the state”, Governor Uduaghan said, stressing ” that leadership comes from God even if human being incite you, turn to God always and ensure that you maintain that cordial relationship.”
Dr. Uduaghan said that the peace among the various ethnic groups was the greatest legacy he is leaving for Delta State.
While thanking God for giving him the opportunity to take charge of the state in the last 8 years, he thanked the clergy, the political leaders, traditional leaders, the security agencies and all Deltans for their support for the success of his administration.
Earlier, Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, Arch Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion in a sermon, commended Dr. Uduaghan for his developmental strides and the success of his three point agenda in the state.
He charged political leaders in the country to render selfless service in any position they find themselves.
Most Rev. Chukwuma called for a paradigm shift and restructuring of the political system in the country to make it more responsive to the needs of the people.
He urged older politicians to step aside and retire gracefully and allow the youths to lead as you can only apply digital solution to 21st century problems.
