Ahead of the 2016 governorship elections, a socio-cultural organization, Bayelsa Youth for Good Governance, has raised alarm over desperate attempt by some politicians in the opposition to resort to the use of smear campaign against the state governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson.

The move is said to be an attempt by the opposition to cover lost ground following the humiliating defeat suffered in the hands of the Dickson-led PDP government at the just concluded national and house assembly elections in the state.

A statement signed by the group’s President, Mr. Tari Sotonye-George, said: “We wish to alert the Nigerian public, the peace loving people of Bayelsa State and all lovers of democracy to an evil plot by the duo of Waripamowei Dudufa, a presidential aide and former governor Timipre Sylva to unleash series of smear campaign and devilish propaganda against the Restoration government.

“The devilish design consists of a vicious smear campaign against Bayelsa governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson, in form of newspaper adverts/articles, facebook and sponsored television documentaries dripping of lies and slander as well as the move to orchestrate street protest”.

The group has called on unsuspecting members of the public to beware of the devilish plot of the opposition, mostly made up of persons who misused the opportunity given to them by God while they were once in power.

“As a body, we are calling on members of the public, particularly unsuspecting members of the public not to allow themselves to be deceived by the antics of the opposition who are mostly made up of past leaders who out of sheer greed and obsessed with a power drunk mentality, misused their opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the people”.
