Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno on Thursday expressed optimism that the February general elections would hold in the state as scheduled.
Shettima gave the indication at the inauguration of 50 Special Advisers and seven Honorary Advisers in Maiduguri.
“I wish to say without fears of contradiction that elections will hold in Borno.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.“We shall hold election in the state by the grace of God.
“If elections can be held in Somalia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Palestine, and other volatile countries, I see no reason why it cannot hold in Borno. “
Shettima advised the newly appointed advisers to work towards educating the electorates on the need to exercise their civic rights in the next month’s general elections.
“You have a great role in mobilising the people towards taking part in the elections.
“Our people must not only cast their votes, but they must guard their votes and make sure that their votes count.”
Gov. Shettima also advised them to work towards helping in realising government’s objectives of enhancing the living standard of the people.
