Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect,  on Sunday attacked Gombi town the Local government headquarters
shooting sporadically thereby causing the residents to run for cover.

Reports from the area says before this attack, the insurgents had
written to express their angst as to the removal of their flag by the
Gombi people in connivance with security agencies.
Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.
A source speaking to our man in confidence however disclosed how
soldiers and mobile policemen took on the insurgents head on and at
about 11.00pm, the shooting ceased. He had also said considerable
damage was done to structures in the town.

The source said the insurgents apparently escaping from Biu in Borno
state, escaped to Gombi via Garkida which has suffered several attacks
from the insurgents and apparently became desperate to reclaim Gombi
which was reclaimed by Nigerian troops about two months ago leaving
many of the insurgents dead.

Our source was asked about the reaction of the residents while the
shootings lasted and he said people have locked themselves indoors and
might not venture out until they are sure of things.

On the morning of today (Monday), the source reported that all was
quiet except movement of Nigerian security agents.

but were not too sure whether there were casualties and until he gets
the facts he will not talk further.
Meanwhile, the Director of Public Affairs to the governor of Adamawa
State Chief Phineas P. Elisha has assured that the security agencies
are already on top of the situation.
